Detailed clinical studies of the thermal balance of infants sleeping on a PurFlo® mattress have taken place at the sleep laboratory, University of Bristol, under the leadership of Peter Fleming CBE, MB, ChB, PhD, FRCP(C), FRCP, FRCPCH, Professor of Infant Health and Developmental Physiology. Extrapolating from these studies of infant physiology, the company is confident that:the mattress is safe for babies in the first few weeks after birth, when it is particularly important to ensure that they do not get too cold by virtue of its breathable surface, the mattress reduces the risk of overheating in older babies because it has lower thermal insulation than ordinary mattresses overheating, particularly when a baby has an acute infection, can be very dangerous
the mattress prevents the pooling of exhaled carbon dioxide and makes it less likely that this will be re-inhaled. There is evidence that in some circumstances rebreathing can be fatal to a baby.


The structure of a PurFlo® mattress:
